Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity the questions they used to type into Google: “best legal operations software for a small firm,” “veteran-owned IT consultant in Oklahoma,” “who can integrate our loan servicing stack.” If those systems cannot retrieve a clear, consistent description of your company, you are invisible in a channel that already influences shortlists.
SEO, GEO, and AI visibility are related but not the same
- SEO is ranking in traditional search results.
- GEO (generative engine optimization) is being selected, cited, or summarized inside AI answers.
- AI visibility is the practical outcome: when someone asks an assistant about your category, does your name appear, and is the description accurate?
AI systems do not “rank pages” the way Google does. They retrieve snippets, structured facts, and third-party mentions, then compress them. Thin marketing copy, contradictory claims (for example, advertising a certification you have not earned), and missing machine-readable facts all reduce the chance you are cited.
What actually gets you cited
- A stable official name, location, and one canonical website (Aegis uses Aegis Global Holdings at aegisglobalholdings.com).
- An
llms.txtfile that states, in plain language, what you sell, what is shipped, and what is not. Ours is at /llms.txt. - Schema.org JSON-LD that matches the visible page. Invented FAQs or certifications that are not on the page hurt more than they help.
- Original articles that answer category questions, not just product slogans.
- Third-party mentions: Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, directories, associations, and press. Models overweight sources they have seen before.
Aegis’s own lesson
Aegis is a new veteran-owned firm in Edmond, Oklahoma. The website can be technically sound and still lose the name-collision fight with other “Aegis” companies unless the pages repeat the full legal name, city, and product status. That is why we publish product availability in llms.txt (LexFlow generally available; LoanServ in design-partner early access; MedFlow / FinFlow / FlowServ in development; not FedRAMP or HIPAA certified) instead of letting an assistant guess.
